Christmas 2007: Intensificati tests with the alcohol test

If during 2007, the Police road has already made 700 thousand tests with the alcohol test, by next December 31 the total number of checks will rise to 800 thousand.

And in 2008 will be two million.

No derogation then, even for the night's Eve, prohibiting the sale of alcohol at night from 2 to 6 in the morning. A nothing is worth the protests of local managers who demanded a suspension of the law, which came into force on October 2 last year, at least for the night of Saint Sylvester.

The test with alcohol, which is to blow twice, at a distance of five minutes in a tube connected to an apparatus, allows to measure the concentration of alcohol in the blood. To ask to drive without incurring penalties, it must be less than 0.5 grams per liter.

To make the idea, suffice to say that 12 grams of alcohol (which entail a concentration of 0.2 grams of alcohol in the blood in a person of about 60 kilos of weight full stomach) are in principle: 1 cup classic wine (125 ml), 1 can of beer (330 cc), 1 cup of superalcolico (40 ml), 1 glass of aperitif (80 ml). But it should be stated that weight, sex and age affect the metabolism of alcohol and can therefore also be crucial in achieving or not the limit permitted by law. In any event, exceed 0.5 grams per litre just little. But the rigidity of the legislation is justified by the fact that today - we read in the website of the State Police - 40 percent of road accidents in Italy is caused by alcohol.

And with the new decree law of August 3, 2007, the penalties are even more severe: in addition to the subtraction of 10 points on the licence (20 for young people who have taken the licence after the first in October 2003 and less than 3 years), Fines start at 500 euros but, depending on the BAC, up to 6,000 euros. In the most serious cases (over 1.5 grams per litre), is also planned to arrest up to six months and suspension of licences from one to two years.

Then, when a person under the influence of alcohol causing a traffic accident, the penalties are doubled. And it is better not refuse to be tested: otherwise, we prepare to put hand to portfolios to pay a fine salt (from 2,500 to 10,000 euros) and surrender to self for a few months (180 days).
